Brasilia, Brazil | guto@carvalho.life
I have been here a long time. I started to work with computers back in the '90s. My first OS was MS-DOS 6.0, and my first window manager was Windows 3.1. I used to connect to the internet using those noisy 14.400mbps modems from US Robotics, and IRC was the best way to chat with our friends :)
I have a sysadmin soul plus network and Linux skills combined with agile culture, I'm also a DevOps Enthusiast, GitOps Practitioner, and Cloud-Native believer.
I've done so many things during my digital journey. I've worked as a Sysadmin, Network engineer, Linux engineer, Advisor for the Federal Government, Consultor, Entrepreneur, Infrastructure developer (Infra as code), and GitOps engineer. Now I'm working as a Cloud Native Engineer, currently living in Brasília, DF, Brazil.
My interests range from infrastructure as code (IaC), DevOps, GitOps, Kubernetes, Cloud Native, ChatOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile principles.
I want to help companies extract more from their infrastructure, innovate, and seek creative and intelligent solutions that add value to their teams, projects, products, and customers.
In 2011, I presented an automation case using IaC inside a Brazilian Executive Federal Government agency called EBC, probably the first one.
I was one of the first professionals to write and talk about DevOps and automation (IaC) in Brazil back in 2011-2012.
li>I was one of the disseminators of the DevOps Culture inside the Brazilian Federal Government.
li>In 2012-2013, I dived Into the DevOps Principles and Community, and back then, I started to follow Patrick Debois and John Willis adventures, trying to use their experience in Brazil.
li>I was part of the team that built the first private cloud of Itaú, one of the largest banks in Brazil.
In two of my recent projects, I was able to help the Ministry of Health and Superior Justice Tribunal enter the Cloud Native era. I designed the architecture and deployed several k8s clusters for their APPs and systems (dev, stg, test, pre-prod, prod), now they are moving from legacy to Cloud Native.
I held two devopsdays in Brasilia city, Brazil's Capital.
I was invited to open two DevOpsDays in Brazil, one in Porto Alegre, and another in Goiania, and I was honored and very proud to be in both places. This one of those things that is very significant in our lives, and I'll remember those days forever.
I've trained more than 500 people on IaC in the last 10 years.
I've been blogging for almost 15 years about IT and general stuff.
I've given more than 150 talks in the last 10 years.
I'm a regular speaker in several Brazil IT Conferences.
I grew up in the mid-west of Brazil in a state called 'Mato Grosso do Sul' near the Bolivia and Paraguay borders. In that state, I lived in Pantanal Sul (South Swaplands). In that time, I had the opportunity to experience nature and wildlife, ride horses and swim in rivers with fish, snakes, alligators, birds, reptiles, and various mammals — a magical and amazing time of my life.
In my young adult life, I decided to move to Brasilia to find new challenges and learn more about mission-critical systems, especially those from the Federal Government, and I have been here since then.
Now I'm 41 and I have two kids, a dog and a cat :)
Besides the IT life and digital culture, I love to do mountain bike and karate-do!
